Description: JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Dean, Department of Nursing faculty receive a contract or letter of appointment with a primary responsibility in teaching. Faculty members assess, plan, implement and evaluate instruction for students in clinical and classroom settings in coordination with established program and course objectives Serving University of Saint Francis (USF) students and the USF community is paramount. To provide a consistent quality experience across the university, the USF Way, outlined in the Employee Handbook, is used to describe service expectations for all employees.
The primary responsibility of a faculty member is effective teaching . For details on classroom and clinical responsibilities – See USF Faculty Handbook and Department Policy Manual. Faculty is expected to:
34 contact hours across the 12-month contract
Graduate nursing courses consistent with the catalog description and LMS design
Assigned courses at the scheduled time and place and meet required contact hours
Serve as Course Coordinator/Subject Matter Expert for courses as assigned- see Course Coordinator Job Description, Course Coordinator Theory and Clinical Reports
Monitor and evaluate clinical sites
Contribute to the graduate learning process
Maintain educational practices congruent with industry and accreditation standards
Advise DNP projects as assigned
Participate in faculty orientation and mentoring programs
Assist the Program Director with curriculum coordination and program assessment such as course design and delivery according to USF, SOHS, and GNP policies
Respond to student questions, emails and phone calls within 24 hours, Monday-Friday
Provide substantive timely feedback for all required student coursework within 7 days of submission
Provide individual counsel and guidance to promote student success
Maintain effective communication with students, faculty, department administrators, clinical agencies, and health care professionals
Integrate evidence-based practice in fulfilling all roles of faculty practice
Collaborate with colleagues for instructional improvement via professional peer review
Assist with evaluation of adjunct faculty members when serving as Course Coordinator
Submit reports and requests for information promptly
Maintain course materials such as evaluations, test scores, notes documenting student progress

Doctorate degree (PhD, DNP, DNAP) in nursing from an accredited institution required
Formal instruction in curriculum, evaluation, and instruction preferred
Minimum of three years experience in the discipline required
Prior teaching experience in clinical or classroom setting preferred
Current Indiana RN license required
Current certification as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist by the NBCRNA required
Requirements for all School of Health Sciences faculty engaged in clinical instruction:
Current TB testing
Current CPR certification
Documentation of Hepatitis B immunization
Other requirements as specified by clinical facilities
Knowledge and Skills:
Competence in educational principles and techniques used in higher education classrooms, laboratory and clinical settings
Knowledge of the profession including theory and practice issues, procedures, and regulations
Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community
