Description: Overview: This is full-time faculty/administrative position with the School of Nurse Anesthesia. Under the general supervision of the Director of the School of Nurse Anesthesia, the Assistant Director of Simulation provides assistance to the Director in all phases of the administration of the School. In the absence of the Director, this individual may perform the Director’s duties and/or assist the Assistant Director of Didactic Education in these duties. The incumbent also performs duties and tasks in accordance with the performance standards established for the position, while adhering to financial targets for revenue and expense.
Preferred Education: Masters Degree, Doctorate
Principle duties and responsibilities:
1. Participate in the recruitment, selection and evaluation of candidates during the admission process as well as assists in establishing and maintaining admission and selection criteria.
2. Assist in the design and implementation of curriculum that enables students to obtain proper certification and ensures courses adhere to established guidelines and standards.
3. Assist in the didactic phase of the Program. Specifically, he/she will provide instruction in the classroom, simulation and skills lab, and via distance education platforms, as well as act as a student advisor.
4. Coordinate simulation experiences to assess student’s progress and competencies throughout the program in conjunction with Simulation Lab staff.
5. Counsel students in collaboration with the Program Director and assist in the development of clinical remediation plans during the didactic and clinical phases of the program, if necessary.
6. May assist, if directed by Director, in managing clinical training sites for student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs) and performs duties and tasks in accordance with established COA standards and school policies, such as: site recruitment, assignment and scheduling of students to designated clinical sites, periodic on-site evaluation, ongoing student evaluation and counseling as needed, communicating with Clinical Coordinators and clinical preceptors at each affiliate site.
7. Assist in the preparation of reports for Program accreditation. Collaborates with the Program Director in managing a program of study the meets the standards of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA).
8. Serve on school, college and university-wide committees as assigned. Specifically, serves as a Chair or member of the Student Development Committee (SDC) and Admissions and Curriculum Committees.
9. Maintain a program of personal professional growth by engaging in scholarly activity, university and community service and other pursuits commensurate with faculty rank and status.
10. Attend continuing education and national association meetings for personal and professional development.
11. Network internally and externally with other institutions, schools, faculties and professional organizations for personal and program enrichment, specifically pedagogical innovations and ideas related to the theory and practice of nurse anesthesia.
12. Maintain current RN licensure and certification as a CRNA as well as being a dues-paying member of the AANA.
13. Adhere to additional duties as assigned.
1. Clinical Practice degree (DNP, DNAP) or Research Doctorate from a nationally accredited institution required may consider applicant if degree in progress and completion will be by December 31, 2017
2. Current unencumbered RN licensure and certification and/or recertification as a CRNA.
3. A minimum of three (3) years clinical experience as a practicing CRNA. Previous teaching and/or management experience is desired.
4. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, as the incumbent must handle a range of responsibilities that include school administration, faculty and student interaction, teaching, internal and external networking, as well as patient involvement if a practicing CRNA.
5. Must be able to operate independently using initiative and judgment to manage multiple priorities while guiding and teaching students, collaborating with faculty and interacting with university and hospital administrations.
6. Must possess a high degree of analytical and problem solving skills to perform on-going review, evaluation, and enhancement of program curriculum as well as be able to assess and evaluate student performance in accordance with program standards and protocols.
7. Must be highly accountable for the supervision, education, and training of graduates and dedicated to the goal of producing high quality nurse anesthesia practitioners.
8. Must possess a high degree of ethics, integrity, and morality, ensuring confidential faculty and student information is safeguarded, and treating every student with dignity and respect.
